Junior Cricket

The failure to encourage Canadian children to play cricket is the single biggest factor in arresting the development of the game in the country.

In 1956 the MCC agreed to recieve a Canadian junior tour every two years. Like all philathropantic gestures from the mother country, it could survive the rigours of the modern era and the tours ceased. WHEN?

The Junior Inter-Provincial Tournament was set up in the late 1950s. In 1958 (inaugural?) was held in Winnipeg.

Due to the short summer term Canadian schools have less than half the season in which to organise cricket games.

In the summer of 2008 it was announced that Canadian cricket had found a new sponsor in Scotiabank, a long term sponsor of West Indian cricket.  A crucial part of the three year deal was the establishment of the Cricket Canada Scotiabank School Program, starting in the cities of Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto. Winnipeg will host the Cricket Canada Scotiabank School Program tournament in August 2009.
