Baseball

Evidence that cricket lost players to baseball. In the 1870s the rise of the Bowmanville Royal Oaks baseball team was related to the decline of Darlington Cricket Club, according to the book Diamonds in the North.

 

In July 1923 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle visited Winnipeg and saw the home team play Minneapolis All-Stars at Wesley Park. He stated "I have all the prejudices of an old cricketeer, and yet I cannot get away from the fact that baseball is the better game." Manitoba History spring 1993.

 

Ice Hockey

The early ice hockey goal tenders adapted wicket-keeper pads and gloves for their own use.
