The Tours to and from Canada Between the Wars

Page history last edited by Patrick Adams 14 years, 5 months ago

1922 Norman Seagrams' tour of Britain

The tourists failed to win a game, although a competitive team was probably not the main objective. More details from:

http://www.cricketarchive.com/Archive/Seasons/ENG/1922_ENG_Canadian_XI_in_England_1922.html

1931 tour from Bermuda

Toronto and District Cricket Council XI enjoyed a one-sided match against Bermuda XI.

1932 tour from Australia

This was under the captaincy of Vic Richardson and included the legendary Don Bradman.

1933 tour of Sir Julien Cahn's XI

In 1933 the eccentric Englishman Sir Julien Cahn brought a team to Canada, America and Bermuda when he was 50 years old. Canada would benefit from cricketing philanthropists from Britain for the next 30 years.

1936 tour of Britain by RC Matthews' Canadian XI

A youthful team who played against schools such as Rugby, Harrow and Eton as well as club sides. However, they defeated the MCC at Lords by 76 runs in a single innings match. The first Canadian team to win at Lords. Their record was 14 games played (not including a match that was abandoned without a ball being bowled) 7 wins, 6 draws and 1 defeat.

1937 MCC Tour

This was captained by George Newman and was a direct result of Canada's 1936 tour of Britain.  The tourists were one of the weaker teams to tour Canada and would have struggled to compete against a County team. The MCC played 19 games, winning 12, drawing 6 and losing only once, although many of the games were more competitive than the overall results would suggest.
