This chapter will describe two very different tours made by two very different Canadian teams in the 1880s. The chapter will detail the following:
1. A Brief History of the 1880 Canadian Cricket Tour
2. Why the 1880 Tour Was a Failure
3. A Brief History of the 1887 Canadian Cricket Tour
4. Why the 1887 Tour Was a Success
5. The Significance of the Two Tours For Canadian Cricket
The 1910 tour to Britain by Toronto Zingari also needs to be referred to, but as a number of these tour members died in the First World War, I plan to include their story in that chapter. Norman Seagram went on this tour and he would continue to encourage cross-Atlantic competition. In 1922 he financed and selected his onw touring team. The Honorable RC Mathews assembled a more youthful team for his 1936 tour. The MCC embarked on a return tour in 1937. Mathews' teams were victorious both times.
