1878 saw the first tour from Australia, where Dave Gregory's team easily outplayed both 22 players from Toronto, beating them by 10 wickets, and 22 players from Montreal, by securing a first innings lead of 228 with one wicket remaining when time was called. Clearly the Canadians could not compete with a team that had beaten the MCC by 9 wickets a few months before. Australia were shortly to prove that they were the best in the world.
The tourists played the following games
Against Ontario, at Toronto, on 8-9 October 1878 won by 10 wickets.
Against Montreal on 10-11 October 1878: match drawn.
